China’s Service Robots Overtake Industrial Ones in Early 2025 Growth

March 18, 2025

Hey there! Here’s some exciting news from China’s robotics scene: the country’s service robot industry is making waves, outpacing its industrial counterpart in early 2025. You might know China as a powerhouse in industrial robots, but now it’s the service robots that are stealing the spotlight. These include robots used in professional, consumer, and medical fields. It’s a fascinating shift that’s worth paying attention to.

Startups like Unitree Robotics from Hangzhou and Shenzhen’s UBTech Robotics are really pushing the envelope here. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), service robot production jumped by an impressive 35.7%, reaching around 1.5 million units in just the first two months of 2025. In comparison, industrial robots grew by 27%, totaling 91,088 units. That’s quite a difference, isn’t it?

Sun Xiao, an NBS statistician, mentioned that the combined output from both service and industrial robots, along with industrial control computers and systems, has contributed to a 9.1% boost in the added value of digital product manufacturing. This new data gives us a clearer picture of how China’s robotics industry is evolving. It’s not just about keeping up; it’s about leading the way in both industrial and service robot markets.
