Xpeng Sees Robotics Overtaking Car Industry Growth

March 19, 2025

Xpeng, a leading name in China’s electric vehicle scene, is predicting a major shift in industry dynamics. They believe robotics will soon outpace the growth of the automotive sector. While it might take a few years—about five, to be precise—before humanoid robots become a common sight in our homes, the change is on the horizon.

Brian Gu Hongdi, Xpeng’s vice-chairman and co-president, shared during a video briefing, “When we talk about robotics, it’s likely to become the biggest industry of the future. It could even surpass automotive in certain ways, given the sheer volume and the diverse applications they can serve.” Initially, Xpeng plans to roll out their robotic innovations in commercial spaces like factories and retail environments.

In a recent earnings call, the Guangzhou-based company laid out its strategic vision, focusing on three main areas: integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into their vehicles, expanding their reach beyond China, and advancing humanoid robot development. Last November, Xpeng introduced their AI-driven humanoid robot, named Iron, shortly after Tesla unveiled its counterpart, Optimus.

Xpeng is already using robotic systems in their factories for car assembly. They’re gearing up to start mass production of humanoid robots and even flying cars for consumers by the end of next year. It’s an exciting time for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike as these innovations promise to reshape industries and daily life.
