Google Steps Up Ad Safety with Smarter AI Tools

April 17, 2025

Hey there! On April 16, 2025, Google made a big announcement about how they’re ramping up ad safety. They’ve rolled out over 50 improvements to their large language models (LLMs), all aimed at keeping you and the entire advertising ecosystem safer. Alex Rodriguez, who’s the General Manager of Ads Safety at Google, shared some insights. He mentioned that these updates have sped up complex investigations, helping to spot sneaky stuff like fake payment info during account setups. Pretty impressive, right?

Rodriguez explained, “This kept billions of policy-violating ads from ever showing to a consumer, while ensuring legitimate businesses can show ads to customers faster.” One of the standout efforts has been tackling those pesky AI-generated ads that impersonate public figures. Google’s introduced some strict policies to suspend advertisers promoting these scams. Thanks to these measures, they’ve permanently suspended over 700,000 offending advertiser accounts. That’s led to a whopping 90% drop in scam ad reports this year!

The 2024 Ads Safety Report shines a light on Google’s dedication to verifying who advertisers really are. They’re enforcing policies to block harmful content and ensuring sensitive ads only reach the right audiences. In 2024 alone, Google took down 5.1 billion ads, restricted 9.1 billion, and suspended 39.2 million advertiser accounts. It’s clear the ad safety landscape is always evolving, influenced by tech breakthroughs like AI, new abuse tactics, and global events.

Google’s committed to tackling these challenges head-on. They’re deploying advanced tech and teaming up with others to make sure your online experience stays safe. If you’re navigating the digital ad world, it’s good to know companies like Google are putting in the work to protect us all.
