Another proposal involves using AI to help analyze body camera footage. This could drastically cut down on the time it takes to manually review footage and improve accountability among officers. According to the National Institute of Justice, AI video analytics can highlight potential incidents that need further examination.

Facial Recognition and Privacy

Elfman also supports the use of AI-powered facial recognition technologies to find missing persons and identify suspects, while emphasizing the need for strict privacy policies. The U.S. Government Accountability Office has recognized the effectiveness of facial recognition in aiding investigations, especially in cases involving child exploitation and human trafficking.

Real-Time Emergency Analysis

By utilizing natural language processing (NLP), emergency communications can be analyzed in real-time to quickly identify signs of escalating violence or emergencies. Research from Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab shows that NLP can help reduce emergency response times.

Crime Mapping and Visualization

For crime mapping and data visualization, Elfman envisions AI-driven geographic information systems and dashboards. These tools would allow agencies to visualize crime trends and policing outcomes, fostering transparency and public trust.

Elfman plans to present these ideas at upcoming law enforcement technology summits in Arizona and Florida. He stresses the importance of community input, officer training, and transparent safeguards in implementing these AI tools.
