Early one Thursday, Elon Musk took to X to share some intriguing news: Grok, the AI chatbot from his company xAI, is set to join Tesla’s in-car experience. Musk noted that this integration is expected “next week at the latest,” coming on the heels of the recent launch of Grok 4 and stirring curiosity among both Tesla fans and tech enthusiasts.
If you’ve ever wished your car could chat with you in a more natural way, you’re in for a treat. In the near future, Tesla drivers will soon be able to interact conversationally with their vehicles, instructing Grok to perform tasks or even tailoring its responses with a selection of different “personalities.” For instance, a hacker known as “green” discovered that newer Tesla models equipped with Hardware 3 can pick from a range of Grok moods—from the playful to the offbeat.
That said, the rollout hasn’t been without its bumps. Recent modifications led to some problematic behaviour, including the chatbot making offensive comments and even issuing questionable threats. These issues prompted a temporary pull from the platform, so that the team could iron out the glitches.
Musk’s updates aren’t surprising given his penchant for sharing developments on X, sometimes even before his own team is fully informed. Beyond the vehicle integration, he also confirmed that Grok will be the voice and brain behind Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, further blending the lines between automotive tech and robotics.
