Anthropic boosts Claude AI with live web search via new API

May 8, 2025

Anthropic has just rolled out an API that enriches its Claude AI models with live web search capabilities. This update allows developers to build applications that blend real-time data with established knowledge, all without having to run a separate web search system.

This launch marks an important step for AI companies aiming to enhance their platforms and attract new users. Alongside this development, Anthropic introduced a tool to simplify connections with Claude—and a ‘deep research’ upgrade that enables more effective exploration of enterprise accounts and websites.

When enabled, the web search feature lets Claude tap into both its extensive training and fresh, up‑to‑date information. It smartly determines if a search is needed, formulates a query, retrieves relevant results, and then refines its response with clear citations. This means you can get detailed, current answers without manual intervention.

You can also customise the API by choosing which domains to include or exclude, and by setting organisation‑level controls on web search permissions. Moreover, web search is now integrated into Claude Code, a tool that helps developers access the latest API documentation, technical articles, and related coding resources. Though currently in beta, Claude Code highlights Anthropic’s commitment to making AI development more efficient and interactive.

If you’ve ever struggled to keep your AI applications up‑to‑date with real-world data, this new API could simplify your workflow significantly.
