Anthropic’s AI Assistant Claude Now Searches the Web for You

March 21, 2025

Anthropic has rolled out an exciting update for its AI assistant, Claude, giving it the power to search the web and bring you the freshest, most relevant information. This means Claude can now tap into current online resources, going way beyond its initial training data.

One of the standout features of this update is its focus on transparency and accuracy. As Anthropic puts it, “When Claude uses web info in its responses, it gives you direct citations, making it easy to check sources.” This is a big help if you want to verify the facts quickly.

By presenting information in a chatty format, Claude saves you the hassle of combing through search results yourself. Anthropic is confident this enhancement will expand Claude’s usefulness across various fields. For instance, sales teams can boost account planning and improve win rates by analyzing industry trends and understanding key initiatives. Financial analysts might access real-time market data and earnings reports to sharpen investment decisions. Researchers could enhance grant proposals and literature reviews by diving into online primary sources and spotting emerging trends. And shoppers? They can compare products, prices, and reviews from different sources for smarter buying choices.

Initially, this feature is available to paid users in the U.S., but Anthropic plans to roll it out to free users and other regions soon. To get started with web search, just toggle the feature in your profile settings and kick off a chat with Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Once you do, Claude will automatically weave web searches into its responses when it makes sense.

This update bolsters Claude’s role as a dynamic, adaptable AI assistant, delivering real-time information while keeping everything transparent with citations.
