Hey there! If you’ve been keeping an eye on the electric vehicle scene, you’ll want to hear about BYD’s latest innovation. On March 17th, at their headquarters in Shenzhen, this Chinese automaker is going to showcase something pretty revolutionary: the ‘BYD Super e-Platform.’ This isn’t just any platform—it’s set to shake up the industry with a super-fast charging system boasting a whopping 1,000 kW power capacity.
Imagine this: a 100-kWh battery fully charged in just about 10 minutes. That’s almost as fast as filling up a traditional gasoline tank! To put it in perspective, BYD’s new charger doubles the capacity of Tesla’s V4 Superchargers, which are expected to hit China by 2025. This leap forward could really tackle some of the big concerns folks have about EV charging times.
There’s a lot of buzz on social media, with some folks speculating that this charger might even juice up a car in as little as six minutes. While that sounds exciting, it’s worth noting that these claims haven’t been verified by experts yet.
But that’s not all. BYD is also kicking off pre-sales for their much-anticipated Han L sedan and Tang L SUV at this event. These vehicles are the first to feature the new platform and charging tech, equipped with dual motors that pack a punch—230 kW at the front and 580 kW at the rear. If you’re into speed, the Han L goes from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and the Tang L isn’t far behind at 3.9 seconds.
This new 1,000 kW charging technology is a big step up from the current superchargers, which typically range from 200 kW to 400 kW. BYD is clearly on a roll, expanding its electric vehicle lineup with plans to launch an electric sports car under the Denza brand by 2025, aiming to compete with the likes of Porsche. And let’s not forget the buzz around their YangWang U9, which has been turning heads with its supercar-like performance.
In another smart move, BYD has also secured lithium mining rights in Brazil, which should strengthen their supply chain and further boost their EV business.
