China Paves the Way for AI and Robotics Leadership, Says Unitree CEO

June 27, 2025

China is quickly establishing itself as a leader in artificial intelligence and robotics, a promise echoed by tech experts at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin. Wang Xingxing, CEO of the humanoid robotics start-up Unitree, recently shared that the company’s annual revenue has topped one billion yuan (roughly US$139.4 million). This milestone spotlights China’s growing tech prowess, powered by a strong data framework and an efficient supply chain.

‘The rising industry interest and the boost in demand have set the stage for rapid growth among top companies,’ Wang remarked during the panel discussion. Since its launch in 2016, Unitree has thrived with the backing of Zhejiang province’s government, a friendly business environment, and a rich talent pool.

Li Haitao, dean of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, also weighed in on China’s potential in AI. He pointed out, ‘Right now, only the US and China seem poised to take the lead in the AI arena over the next decade.’ His perspective not only highlights China’s strategic investments but also hints at broad shifts in the global tech landscape.

If you’re keeping an eye on emerging trends, these insights are a timely reminder of how strategic focus can pave the way for wider industry shifts. China’s approach today might very well influence global developments in robotics and AI tomorrow.
