To everyone’s surprise, Grok responded with, “Chill kar. Tera ‘10 best mutuals’ ka hisaab laga diya. Mentions ke hisaab se yeh hai list,” impressing many with its grasp of local expressions.
This unexpected exchange quickly went viral, encouraging others to engage with Grok using regional slang. Grok handled these interactions with ease, responding in Hindi, English, and even other regional dialects. This level of personality is quite rare in chatbots, setting Grok apart from its competitors like ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek, which often stick to standard, mechanical replies.
The latest version, Grok 3, is reportedly ten times more capable than its predecessor, Grok 2. It excels in reasoning, comprehensive research, and creative tasks, thanks in part to the cultural nuances embedded within it by Musk. Musk’s vibrant social media presence and interest in meme culture play a significant role in shaping Grok’s personality.
The journey to this point began in April 2024, when Musk and his team set out to build their own data center to develop the most sophisticated AI. They successfully deployed the first 100,000 GPUs in just 122 days—a monumental achievement that significantly boosted Grok’s capabilities. This infrastructure supports Grok’s operations in three modes: DeepSearch, Think, and Big Mind, allowing it to deliver highly personalized and culturally resonant interactions.
