Since late April 2025, Google’s Gemini app has been making waves on Android, notching over six million weekly installs by the end of May—well ahead of ChatGPT’s under three million. Google’s power play through its search and related services has clearly played a part in driving these numbers. Still, if you’re after active daily use, ChatGPT leads the pack; in May, nearly 43% of its users were active every day, compared to a modest 4.9% for Gemini. This contrast is a reminder that while download figures can be exciting, user engagement tells the full story.
