Google’s NotebookLM Set to Enhance Video Overviews at I/O

May 16, 2025

Google is set to boost NotebookLM’s capabilities just as the I/O event approaches. Building on last year’s audio summaries, the tech giant is now exploring dynamic video storytelling. Picture a podcast-like video, where two virtual hosts discuss your chosen topic backed by pertinent visuals – that’s the promise of the new video overviews feature.

A recent tweet from Google Labs has sparked plenty of excitement, hinting at playful experiments in the lab. The update introduces customisation options such as a length selector, giving you the choice between a default or extended version, and a prompt field to zero in on the focus, whether it’s specific visuals or key elements. This flexibility is ideal whether you’re organising a book club discussion, preparing for a quiz, or presenting insights from academic papers.

For content creators, educators, and media publishers, the support for both audio and video briefs suggests that even text-based inputs might soon be transformed into engaging, multimedia presentations. Although the feature isn’t broadly available just yet, its presence in the interface and subtle nods from official channels indicate that we might see it debut at I/O.
