How You Can Own a Military-Grade Satellite for Just $5.5 Million

April 22, 2025

Imagine owning your very own satellite, a piece of technology that was once only in the hands of governments. Now, thanks to United Spaceports Corp. in Las Vegas, this dream can be a reality for the ultra-wealthy. For $5.5 million, you can have the Black Star 1000, a cutting-edge military-grade satellite, complete with construction, launch, and a ground-based command center.

Rob Lauer, the CEO of United Spaceports, highlights the unmatched data security these satellites provide. He notes, “This is the first time in human history where private citizens can own a fully operational military-grade satellite, and it costs less than a private jet.” Lauer underscores the growing importance of data sovereignty, especially in light of recent communication mishaps among U.S. national security leaders.

The Black Star 1000 isn’t just any satellite. It’s packed with features like an AI-driven Nvidia data center and a cryptocurrency wallet. It offers Earth observation through remote sensing and secure communications. Plus, it comes with a telescope for space viewing, an X-band downlink, and an S-band for control, all powered by solar arrays.

As a buyer, you can choose between a low-Earth orbit or a pricier geostationary orbit, which keeps the satellite positioned above the equator. There are also options for jet-based communication systems.

Lauer acknowledges that the market for personal satellites is niche. However, he points out that affluent individuals who already enjoy luxury yachts and cars might see this as a must-have. “Until now, only governments had access to space-based power and security,” he says. “Today, we’re handing the keys to space to the world’s most powerful business people. Because the truth is simple: It’s never really secure unless you own it.”

United Spaceports is currently accepting deposits for satellite launches expected in two years, with hopes for future deliveries via spaceplanes.
