Microsoft and the NFL are taking their long-standing partnership to the next level. Surface tablets, a trusted sideline tool for years, now come with smart AI upgrades to help coaches and players make quicker, well-informed decisions. With a new feature powered by GitHub Copilot, filtering plays and adjusting tactics during the game becomes a smoother process. A fresh Microsoft 365 Copilot dashboard also means analysts can manage game data more efficiently using neat, organised spreadsheets.
Under the updated deal, each team’s Sideline Viewing System is connected to over 2,500 Surface Copilot Plus PCs – complete with prominent “Copilot” logos. It won’t be long before post-match discussions start to include insights inspired by AI, assuming the network cooperates. Even though former stars like Tom Brady are no longer in the picture, these devices are set to offer a tangible strategic edge.
Looking ahead, Microsoft and the NFL plan to expand AI’s role beyond play-calling. They aim to use data-driven analysis for draft prospects, not just at the NFL Combine but throughout the scouting process. This move is also expected to streamline operations in various business areas, from finance to human resources, showing that technology can make even the toughest decisions a bit easier.
