Microsoft teams up with xAI to bring Grok AI to Azure

May 20, 2025

Microsoft has taken a confident step in the AI scene by partnering with Elon Musk’s xAI to host Grok AI on its Azure cloud services. This move comes on the heels of heated discussions sparked by Grok’s earlier, controversial responses—including unverified claims about white genocide in South Africa.

At a Microsoft event, Musk reassured the crowd that xAI is dedicated to truth and is upfront about the occasional error. He stressed that while mistakes can happen, the focus remains on keeping the AI in touch with reality.

Grok, developed by xAI, recently stirred debate after delivering responses that echoed some unfounded right-wing ideas. In a bid to regain trust, the startup is set to reveal its system prompts, refine its review processes, and put a 24/7 monitoring team in place.

Most generative AI models operate with built-in prompts to steer their tone—OpenAI’s model, for example, had to adjust after overly flattering replies. Grok’s slip-up, which even echoed themes discussed by Musk on social media, prompted a thorough reassessment of its internal controls.

Developers will soon find Grok as part of Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry, joining a host of other established models from OpenAI, DeepSeek, Meta, and more. This platform gives you the flexibility to create custom AI solutions that precisely meet your needs.

At the Microsoft Build event, industry leaders like Satya Nadella and Sam Altman highlighted how AI is reshaping technology. Altman pointed to tools like GitHub Copilot—already helping 15 million developers—as clear evidence of increasing AI adoption across the board.

Yet, innovation comes with its challenges. Microsoft’s recent streamlining, which affected around 6,000 employees (about 3% of its global team), shows the company’s cautious balancing act between embracing new tech and managing its resources efficiently.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by technology that seems too quick to hide its mistakes, you might appreciate Microsoft and xAI’s transparent approach. Their willingness to adjust and openly address issues is a welcome change in this fast-moving industry.
