Mistral AI Unveils Enterprise-Grade Coding Assistant to Enhance Development Security and Control

June 5, 2025

Mistral AI is taking a confident step forward with Mistral Code, its new coding assistant designed specifically for the enterprise. With a focus on enhanced control and security, this tool brings together four distinct AI models – Codestral for smooth code completion, Codestral Embed for quick and efficient code searches, Devstral for handling agent-driven coding tasks, and Mistral Medium for chat-based support. Supporting over 80 programming languages and built on the open-source Continue project, Mistral Code is already in private beta with both JetBrains and Visual Studio Code users.

Mistral Code goes beyond conventional coding aids. It is built to manage entire development tasks, whether that means handling file systems, creating modules, updating tests, or managing command line operations. Developers who value maintaining control can benefit from configurable release processes that let them decide how involved they want to be.

For organisations grappling with integration challenges in proprietary systems and the complexities of vendor management, Mistral Code offers three flexible deployment options: public cloud, dedicated cloud servers, or isolated on-premises hardware. Each option is easily customised to work with your internal data, all managed from a comprehensive administrative interface that simplifies user control, system monitoring, and compliance.

Early adopters are already seeing the value. Abanca bank uses a hybrid approach for a smooth transition, while France’s SNCF railway deploys the tool to a team of 4,000 developers. Capgemini is also preparing to implement Mistral Code for 1,500 developers operating in regulated environments.

Amid the rapid growth of AI-assisted development, Mistral’s commitment to addressing real enterprise challenges has sparked interest across the board. Companies are investing heavily in these tools even as the industry contends with issues such as model hallucinations. In a landscape where investment moves quickly – with players like Cursor making strategic moves and OpenAI exploring new opportunities – Mistral’s new Medium 3 model stands out. It offers impressive performance at a fraction of the cost, setting a competitive pace against rivals like Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 3.7.
