Moxi Robots revolutionise hospital deliveries with 300,000 milestone

July 17, 2025

Diligent Robotics’ Moxi robots have just hit a major milestone—over 300,000 pharmacy deliveries in hospitals by May 2025. With more than 900 deliveries each month at some of the busiest sites, this achievement builds on a previous landmark of 1 million total hospital deliveries and 100,000 autonomous elevator rides.

Andrea Thomaz, the CEO and co-founder, explains that the breakthrough is down to advancements in their embodied AI roadmap. “Moxi is built to fit right into an existing space without needing extra installations in elevators or doorways,” she notes. “Its mobile manipulation and quick learning to interact with different environments make it a truly adaptable solution.”

Since 2017, Diligent Robotics has been dedicated to automating healthcare tasks, and Moxi is now active in over 30 hospitals across the United States. Thomaz points out that the robot’s workload is well balanced—split equally between pharmacy deliveries, lab tasks, and transporting equipment.

Early versions of Moxi featured open shelving that wasn’t secure enough for medications. Now, with locked storage compartments and specialised features for controlled substances, it offers a robust chain of custody in busy pharmacy workflows.

Looking ahead, Diligent is planning to roll out new features that will provide deeper insights into Moxi’s interactions. They’re even exploring a diverse fleet of robots, each tailored to specific transport needs—including a version capable of handling larger payloads.

Outside of hospitals, the company is eyeing additional care settings like nursing homes and rehab facilities, while also pushing further into logistics and fulfilment. With new leadership appointments, including Rashed Haq as Chief Technology Officer and Todd Brugger as Chief Operating Officer, the team is well-equipped to meet future challenges.

Even though the One Big Beautiful Bill Act may tighten hospital budgets and disrupt technology investments, Thomaz remains optimistic. “We’re having very productive conversations with health system leaders about doing more with the resources at hand,” she says.

Every delivery made by Moxi ultimately benefits patient care—a reminder that behind every piece of technology, there’s a real human impact. At the upcoming RoboBusiness conference in Santa Clara, California, Vivian Chu, co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer, will share insights on how mixing classical robotics with modern AI tunes the robot’s dexterity and adaptability in dynamic hospital settings.
