Nvidia develops custom AI chip for China amid U.S. export restrictions

July 11, 2025

Nvidia is taking a smart turn by developing an AI chip made especially for the Chinese market – a calculated move to navigate stringent U.S. export restrictions. According to the Financial Times, this chip builds on the Blackwell RTX Pro 6000 platform and is expected to hit the market as soon as September, following adjustments made to current models to meet regulatory standards.

While this new offering omits features like high-bandwidth memory and NVLink – Nvidia’s advanced communication technology – these trade-offs are necessary under existing rules. Notably, CEO Jensen Huang recently confirmed that the company has temporarily removed China from its revenue forecasts, though this stance may be reconsidered if the chip performs well.
