OpenAI Brings Ghibli-Style Image Creation to Everyone on ChatGPT

April 4, 2025

Exciting news for all you creative minds out there: OpenAI has broadened its horizon by offering Ghibli-style image generation to everyone using ChatGPT, not just those with a subscription. If you’ve ever wanted to transform your photos into enchanting anime-style images, now’s your chance. But there’s a catch—you can only create three images per day for free users, thanks to the overwhelming demand.

Since this feature was rolled out to subscribers back in March, social media has been buzzing with users sharing their anime-like transformations. While there are other tools like xAI’s Grok and Gemini, they just don’t capture the same level of detail that OpenAI’s model does.

Getting started is a breeze. Head over to the ChatGPT platform, upload your image, and simply type ‘Ghiblify this.’ In no time, you’ll have your very own Ghibli-style artwork. Plus, there’s an option to download and keep your masterpiece.

Given the enthusiastic response, OpenAI had to set some limits. The demand was so intense that it was putting a strain on their GPUs. As CEO Sam Altman put it, the demand was ‘melting’ their GPUs, so the daily cap is a way to manage this effectively.

This new feature is a big step forward for ChatGPT’s capabilities. Instead of relying on external models like DALL-E 3, ChatGPT can now create and edit images directly. This means you can manage up to 20 different objects in an image, giving you more control and consistency. It also combines ChatGPT’s text smarts with visual content, making it more responsive and context-aware.
