OpenAI Strengthens AI Capabilities with Acquisition of Crossing Minds Team

June 27, 2025

OpenAI is set to sharpen its AI edge with the recent acquisition of the team behind Crossing Minds, a startup known for its AI-driven recommendation systems in e-commerce. Backed by investors like Index Ventures and Shopify, Crossing Minds raised over $13.5 million to refine personalised shopping experiences using detailed consumer data while keeping privacy intact.

The co-founders shared their enthusiasm about the move, saying, “Joining OpenAI allows us to bring our work — and our values — into a mission we deeply respect. We’re thrilled to bring our experience and energy to a team that’s setting the direction for the future of AI. We’re excited to learn, to contribute, and to help shape what’s next.”

Alexandre Robicquet, a co-founder of Crossing Minds, has updated his LinkedIn profile to highlight his new role at OpenAI, where he will focus on research and post-training initiatives. While it’s not yet confirmed if the entire team is moving over, the Crossing Minds website now notes that they are no longer accepting new clients—a sign that a full pivot is underway.

Previously, Crossing Minds collaborated with well-known companies such as Intuit and Chanel, delivering advanced AI solutions that reshaped e-commerce strategies. In a rapidly evolving landscape, other tech players like Google and newer ventures like Daydream are also busy launching AI tools to transform how we shop online.

Earlier this year, OpenAI rolled out updates to ChatGPT that now include item recommendations and review features, underscoring its commitment to driving AI-powered consumer experiences. For anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of AI innovation, this latest step from OpenAI is one to watch.
