Unlock the Magic: Create Free Ghibli-Inspired AI Videos with ChatGPT

April 3, 2025

Imagine being able to create enchanting videos that capture the magic of Studio Ghibli, all without spending a dime. Thanks to recent advances in AI technology, you can do just that using ChatGPT. A clever Reddit user has shared a method that lets you produce these captivating animations for free.

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s advanced language model, now includes a native image generation feature within GPT-4o. This means you can craft images that are not only precise but also visually consistent, perfect for transforming into video sequences.

While OpenAI offers a sophisticated text-to-video generator called Sora, it’s currently exclusive to paying subscribers. But don’t worry—there’s a workaround using ChatGPT that lets you create similar animations without any cost.

A Redditor, known as u/TheKlingKong, has shared a step-by-step guide. By instructing ChatGPT to generate a series of images based on a popular anime character, you can piece these together into a video. The process involves creating frames like “10 images, frame by frame, as she pulls out a folded piece of notebook paper,” and then stitching them together using Python to produce a 5 FPS MP4 video.

While the current output might be best suited for GIFs, those willing to invest in OpenAI’s Sora can achieve higher-resolution 1080p videos. These can last up to 20 seconds and support various aspect ratios.

If you’re interested in just a single image, ChatGPT makes it easy. You can either upload an image or ask ChatGPT to “Ghiblify” a new creation, resulting in an image that echoes the aesthetic charm of Studio Ghibli.

Despite the excitement around this feature, there are potential legal hurdles. OpenAI is facing lawsuits over copyright infringement, with entities like the New York Times and authors such as George R.R. Martin expressing concerns about the unauthorized use of their work in AI training.
