Amazon reshuffles executive roles: Marine leads U.S. Prime Video while Cheng drives AI innovations

August 29, 2025

In a strategic reshuffle, Amazon is realigning its executive roles to better match evolving business priorities. In an internal memo, Mike Hopkins, the head of Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, detailed the changes aimed at strengthening the company’s bundled services.

Jay Marine, long known as the VP and global head of sports and advertising, is now also taking charge of the U.S. Prime Video business. This move is designed to integrate more networks and streamers, delivering a richer viewing experience without the usual complications.

At the same time, Albert Cheng is set to lead Amazon’s foray into artificial intelligence. Charged with directing investments in AI-driven tools, Cheng will work closely with Amazon Studios’ tech team to support content creators—from filmmakers to showrunners—ensuring the creative process remains dynamic and forward-thinking.

Hopkins explained that these changes, discussed with CEO Andy Jassy, are intended to streamline decision-making and keep pace with rapid AI advancements. The leadership transition for both Marine and Cheng will roll out over the coming weeks, signalling a proactive approach in a fast-changing tech landscape.

Both executives bring considerable expertise to their new roles. Marine, whose efforts have notably expanded Amazon’s sports rights portfolio with marquee additions like the NBA, complements Cheng’s decade-long track record at Prime Video following his tenure at Disney ABC Television Group. If you’ve ever wondered how to blend traditional media with cutting-edge tech, these strategic moves offer a thoughtful answer.
