How AI is Changing the Way You Order at Taco Bell and KFC

March 27, 2025

Hey there! If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in a long drive-thru line, you’ll be interested to hear about the latest tech shakeup in the fast-food world. Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC are gearing up to enhance your ordering experience with artificial intelligence. Starting this April, Yum! Brands is rolling out AI across 500 locations, using cutting-edge technology from Nvidia. This initiative, wrapping up in June, aims to make ordering smoother and faster with advanced voice-ordering systems that can handle even the trickiest menu requests and a variety of accents.

Yum! Brands recently shared their vision of using AI to tackle some of the more complex tasks in their restaurants. They’re planning to integrate AI agents that can think and plan like humans to support staff in their daily operations. These AI systems will be skilled in language processing, understanding emotions, and providing custom interactions with customers.

Nvidia’s tech has already been tested successfully at some Taco Bell and Pizza Hut locations. It’s expected to speed up drive-thru times and improve how labor is managed, thanks to real-time analytics and alerts.

The fast-food industry isn’t new to AI experiments. Wendy’s and McDonald’s have been exploring voice-enabled ordering too. Wendy’s, after a successful test at around 100 locations, is looking to expand this tech to 600 outlets across the country. CEO Kirk Tanner has praised FreshAI for boosting customer service and making labor more efficient.

On the flip side, McDonald’s wrapped up its AI pilot with IBM last July due to some hiccups with order accuracy. Despite these bumps, McDonald’s is still keen on exploring voice-ordering solutions further.

While many customers are excited about AI advancements in fast-food service, others have taken to social media to voice concerns about how reliable this tech is and what it means for the dining experience. It’s a fascinating time for fast food, and it’ll be interesting to see how these changes play out in the coming months.
