A recent investigation has revealed that two leading Chinese chatbot developers, Zhipu AI and Moonshot AI, have been collecting more user data than they’re permitted. Zhipu’s chatbot, Qingyan (also known as ChatGLM), and Moonshot’s Kimi have both been reported to access information that goes beyond their core functions.
The National Cyber Security Information Centre shared the findings on its WeChat account, yet neither company has provided a comment. Despite these privacy concerns, ChatGLM and Kimi remain highly popular—boasting a combined user base of nearly 35 million as of April—and serve as important alternatives in a market where ChatGPT isn’t available.
