Microsoft Integrates GPT-5 into Copilot for Enhanced AI Functionality

August 8, 2025

Microsoft is upping its AI game by embedding OpenAI’s newest GPT-5 models into its toolkit—spanning Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and GitHub Copilot. The update introduces a smart mode in Copilot that shifts between models to either dig into detailed reasoning or offer quick, agile responses.

This means if you’ve ever found yourself juggling between staying on top of complex projects and needing rapid answers, you’re in luck. Just as ChatGPT offers GPT-5 access for free, Copilot users also get complimentary access to this advanced tech. The improved Microsoft 365 Copilot is now better equipped to handle layered queries, sustain extended discussions, and grasp the context behind your questions.

On top of that, Copilot Studio now benefits from GPT-5, while all paid GitHub Copilot subscriptions will feature the new model. Developers can look forward to enhanced coding support, with GPT-5 available in four variants—each tuned for sharper logic and multi-step tasks. Meanwhile, GPT-5-chat is specifically optimised for enterprise-level, multimodal, context-aware conversations.

For tech innovators, Microsoft is also offering GPT-5 through the Azure AI Foundry. This tool lets you integrate advanced AI into your applications, with a model router that ensures you’re using the right version for every task. If you’ve ever wrestled with AI tools feeling a step behind your pace, this update brings a more nimble, responsive solution to your fingertips.
