Hims & Hers Appoints Former Cruise CTO to Drive AI Innovations

May 14, 2025

For anyone keeping an eye on tech innovations, Hims & Hers has made an intriguing hire. The telehealth company is steering into fresh territory by naming Mo Elshenawy, who honed his expertise in the autonomous vehicle arena as CTO at Cruise, as its new Chief Technology Officer. CEO Andrew Dudum explains that leaders in high‐sensitivity fields like autonomous driving bring invaluable insight to healthcare, where people’s lives are at stake.

Elshenawy’s deep experience in AI, robotics, and autonomous systems makes him a natural fit—even if the move from self-driving cars to healthcare might raise eyebrows at first. As he puts it, self-driving cars rely on AI for real-time decisions in complex, high-pressure settings, a challenge not unlike managing healthcare systems under stress. This shared focus on safety, reliability, and data-driven decision-making underlines his fresh take on healthcare technology.

Hims & Hers, which began in 2017 in San Francisco primarily addressing men’s health issues, quickly expanded to include women’s health, mental health, and weight management. Lately, the company has been putting its extensive patient data to work by developing AI models to refine diagnoses and personal treatment plans. One example is MedMatch, a tool that supports healthcare providers by offering insightful, yet carefully overseen, recommendations in mental health care.

Adding further strength to its tech lineup, the company recently brought on board former Amazon executive Nader Kabbani as Chief Operations Officer. These hires reflect Hims & Hers’ commitment not just to technological advancement but also to keeping the human element central in clinical decision-making. With the company going public in 2021, these strategic moves are set to enhance service for its daily patient base and sustain its momentum in the evolving world of healthcare technology.
